Impact Monitoring: how it can be used
Impact Monitoring can be used to:
Measure single impacts during a game/practice as an indication that a player may be at risk of a head injury/concussion, with a view to establishing agreed “thresholds” to remove a player from play
Measure the effects of cumulative impacts during a game/practice or over several sessions as an indication that a player may be at risk of a head injury/concussion. This may prevent the potential for multiple sub-concussive impacts reaching a threshold where damage occurs
Gather data as to susceptibility of individuals to concussion to create a personalised profile for that person
Gather data as to susceptibility of population groups (age, sex, sports, role etc) to concussion
Form part of a Concussion Passport that follows a player throughout their career, regardless of sport played or team.
